Calcium D-Glucarate

In the mid-1980s, Zbigniew Walaszek and peers demonstrated that the oral ingestion of D-Glucarate, in both humans and animals, lead to the gradual release of a substance that inhibited glucuronidase. Glucuronidase is an enzyme that stops the body’s attempts to rid itself of carcinogens (cancer causing substances). Walaszek showed that animals that were fed Glucarate, had higher levels of D-Glucaro-lactone, an inhibitor of glucuronidase. Using a model for inducing breast cancer in rats (the animal utilized most often for breast cancer research), when Walaszek introduced anthracene, the rodents developed breast cancer. However, 70 percent of rats pre-treated with dietary Glucarate before exposure to anthracene experienced blocked tumor development as they had lower levels of estradiol (the breast cancer causing form of estrogen) in their blood. To summarize, D-Glucarate decreases the levels of glucuronidase, allowing the body to eliminate harmful carcinogens.

Those same researchers discovered that orally administering D-Glucaro-lactone led to a decrease of glucuronidase activity for one hour, Calcium D-Glucarate salt had a five-hour effect. The experiments were done with animals fed different carcinogens which were measured in the blood. With calcium D-Glucarate, the levels were drastically lowered over a sustained time. Calcium D-Glucarate administration helps eliminate carcinogens through the stool, and the effect of a single low dose lasts for hours.
